چکیده

Two-hop ad-hoc networks, in which some nodes forward traffic for multiple sources, with which they also compete for channel access suffer from large queues building up in bottleneck nodes. This problem can often be alleviated by using IEEE 802.11e to give preferential treatment to bottleneck nodes. Previous results have shown that differentiation parameters can be used to allocate capacity in a more efficient way in the two-hop scenario. However, the overall throughput of the bottleneck may differ considerably, depending on the differentiation method used. By applying a very fast and accurate analysis method, based on steady-state analysis of an QBD-type infinite Markov chain, we find the maximum throughput that is possible per differentiation parameter. All possible parameter settings are explored with respect to the maximum throughput conditioned on a maximum buffer occupancy. This design space exploration cannot be done with network simulators like NS2 or Opnet, as each simulation run simply takes to long. The results, which have been validated by detailed simulations, show that by differentiating TXOP it is possible to achieve a throughput that is about 50% larger than when differentiating AIFS and CWmin.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Cheating on the CW and RTS/CTS Mechanisms in Single-Hop IEEE 802.11e Networks

This paper presents a work in progress which deals with the problem of node misbehaviour in ad-hoc networks. A realistic approach is used to determine the impact of contention window manipulation and RTS/CTS cheating. It is explained why IEEE 802.11e ad-hoc networks are more prone to misbehaviour. The paper presents simulation results related to the mentioned types of misbehaviour. The analysis...

Towards a Complete Multi-layered Framework for IEEE-802.11e Multi-hop Ad Hoc Networks

Performance of IEEE 802.11 in multi-hop wireless networks depends on the characteristics of the protocol itself, and on those of the other layers. We are interested in this paper in modeling the IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Coordination Function. This paper investigates the intricate interactions among PHY, MAC and Network layers. For instance, we jointly incorporate the carrier sense thre...

Enhancement in QoS for Hybrid Networks Using IEEE 802.11e HCCA with Extended AODV Routing Protocol

The mobile ad hoc network (MANET) with infrastructure networks (hybrid networks) has several practical uses. The utility of hybrid network is increased in real time applications by providing some suitable quality of service. The quality thresholds are imposed on parameters like end-toend delay (EED), jitter, packet delivery ratio (PDR) and throughput. This paper utilizes the extended ad hoc on-...

Bridging Between IEEE 802.15.6 and IEEE 802.11e for Wireless Healthcare Networks

While many of the technologies envisaged for use in wireless healthcare systems are available today little is known about their interplay. The collected medical data in a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) must be transferred to a medical center for further processing and storage. Therefore, second wireless hop is needed before access to the wired network is achieved. The main focus of this rese...
